Why Not You? Using Your Gifts to Serve the Church

using your gifts to serve the church

Instead of a facility management guide today, I want to pause and offer a word of encouragement that struck me recently.”

Recently, I heard a sermon that really stuck with me. The pastor asked a simple question: What can you be doing instead of waiting for someone else to do it? Why not you? Why not now?

That challenge hit home for me, because my mind always seems to circle back to facility management. And I realized — the work we do in this area really matters. Helping churches take care of their facilities means people have a safe, appealing, and functional place to gather. It creates a space where the community feels welcome, and it helps reduce unnecessary expenses so more money can go directly into ministry.

That’s the impact of stewarding our resources wisely. When we allocate them properly, we can touch more lives and make a bigger difference.

For me, facility management is where my skills and experience lie. I might not be the one preaching the sermon, leading worship, or heading up a children’s program, but what I can do is help churches get a better handle on their facility management.

I know it can be stressful and overwhelming. There are a lot of moving parts, and it often goes over budget when there’s no clear plan. That’s why I enjoy helping churches create customized facility management plans. With the right plan, the church leads the process instead of being led by it. You’re the one driving asset replacements. You’re the one prioritizing preventive maintenance, instead of constantly reacting to emergencies. It’s not always easy, but it is possible with the right structure in place.

And here’s the encouragement I want to share: whatever your area is, flourish in it. Not all of us are facility managers. Not all of us are pastors. Not all of us belong on the worship team. But each of us has something God has equipped us to do. When we put our time and energy into those gifts, and allow others to flourish in their areas, the church as a whole can reach more people and make a greater impact.
